🎉 One Hundred For Hal 🎉
For 50 years, UnTours has redefined what business can be. From the very beginning, our founder Hal Taussig, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year, proved that companies can put people and planet first. He took a vow of poverty, gave away his salary, and invested 100% of UnTours’ profits into launching the UnTours Foundation, funding entrepreneurs and changemakers around the world.
Hal’s vision made UnTours the world’s first Certified B Corporation, inspired Media, PA to become America’s first Fair Trade Town, and showed that business rooted in generosity can spark a quiet revolution.
Now, as we celebrate 50 years of UnTours and the UnTours Foundation’s upcoming anniversary, we invite you to carry Hal’s light forward. Join our tribute campaign, One Hundred for Hal. Our goal is simple: to gather 100 gifts in Hal’s honor, of any size, from people who believe in continuing his vision. With your support, we can fund even more entrepreneurs who are using business as a force for good.
It All Started With UnTours
UnTours has been reimagining what travel can be since the 1970s, when our founder Hal Taussig dared to do things differently. Long before “slow travel” was a trend, we invited people to settle in, stay longer, and build real connections in the places they visited. From Swiss mountain villages to Tuscan farmhouses and Andalusian hilltop towns, UnTourists don’t just pass through. They become part of the community.
UnTours Becomes World's 1st B Corp
UnTours was the very first business in the world to be certified as a B Corporation. Hal inspired many of today’s B Corp leaders with his vision of using business as a force for good. Though UnTours has always been small in size, Hal’s example helped shape a global movement that continues to grow and guide us today.
Hal Leads America’s Fair Trade Journey
Our Fair Trade journey began in the late 1990s when Hal, along with several other business leaders, traveled to Chiapas, Mexico. There they arranged the purchase of an entire shipping container of Fair Trade coffee. This bold step helped lay the groundwork for Media, Pennsylvania, to become the first Fair Trade Town in the United States.
