Cooperative Coffees

Cooperative Coffees

Cooperative Coffees is a forward-thinking coffee import cooperative that partners with small-scale coffee farmers and local exporting coops in the developing world to make the industry more sustainable for all. Engaging in direct trade with farmers and connecting with importers all over North America, they have built a strong, ethical supply chain for high quality coffee.

For over 20 years, Cooperative Coffees has been building relationships, nurturing Fair Trade and environmental best practices, and creating a supply chain that benefits farmers, their families, and their communities. All the while, they are raising the bar for gourmet coffees, bringing a truly superior product to market.

Their values include building safe and empowering working conditions, paying farmers fairly and promptly, respecting and promoting the rights of children, helping farmers grow capacity, cultivating environmental stewardship, and respecting cultural identity.

The Untours Foundation has been happy to watch and help Cooperative Coffees grow their mission and impact. Our involvement dates back to the days of our founder, Hal Taussig, and his personal travel and involvement. Hal and activist Judy Wicks traveled to Chiapas, Mexico to learn more about coffee sourcing. As part of their adventures, they paid for a container of Fair Trade coffee for Cooperative Coffees after facing armed military and paramilitary forces! It ended peacefully and strengthened our commitment to Fair Trade.
