Clean Laundry. Clean Planet. Clean Slates. This is the motto of Wash Cycle laundry, an ecologically smart laundry service.
Founded in 2010 in Phialdelphia, this innovative laundry and linen rental service company provides commercial laundry services to hotel and businesses, with a focus on those that are poorly served by industrial laundries. They pick up and deliver their loads using bikes and consider themselves bike cargo pioneers, proving that a two-wheel vehicle can be a viable transportation alternative to trucks for urban deliveries.
They also employ individuals who are overcoming incarceration, homelessness, and other significant barriers to employment, providing hundreds of second opportunities and combating recidivism and mass incarceration.
This triple-bottom-line company started with just one bike and trailer working off of a laundromat in West Philly that’s now closed. Today Wash Cycle Laundry is a well-known presence in the city and has expanded to Washington DC and Boston. They have been featured on NPR and in The Washington Post.
Untours Foundation was the first outside investor in Wash Cycle Laundry; our funding helped them expand beyond their first Philadelphia outpost, and personal mentorship from Untours Foundation consultants helped founder Gabriel Mandujano establish and grow his company. As with all of our investees, we stay in close contact with our entrepreneurs, meeting with them whenever they ask. The Untours staff also volunteered for Wash Cycle on a Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Day.
