Comon Yaj Noptic

Fair Trade Coffee

Comon Yaj Noptic is a cooperative of organic coffee farmers in Chiapas, Mexico founded in 1995. They work closely with our friends at Equal Exchange and some of their beans are used in Equal Exchange coffees. The farmers not only grow organically, but they participate in wildlife and ecological monitoring, particularly of the local birds.

Equal Exchange helped us find this investee when we were looking for an investment in the global south that directly impacted women and children. The Untours Foundation loan helped revitalize and re-establish farms hit by a fungus that is devastating to the plants, particularly the older, more established trees. Our investment largely benefited single women heads of households who are coffee growers, in turn helping their families.

Comon Yaj Noptic is an important Fair Trade coffee supplier, helping bring high-quality coffees to market while providing living wages for its member farmers and their families and communities.
