The Untours Foundation’s longtime director Elizabeth Killough recently sat down with Technical.ly Assistant Editor Stephen Babcock to talk about impact investing for the Off the Sideline podcast.

She spoke about mission-aligned investing, and how the Untours Foundation invests its endowment to fund solutions to real word problems. The Untours Foundation is leading the movement and working to inspire other foundations.

In short, the idea is that a foundation should invest its endowment funds in ways that are compatible with its mission. For example, if they are working to end climate change, their endowment funds should be invested in green energy, not fossil fuel companies.

“The Untours Foundation is absolutely an investor,” she says. “Our entire modest endowment is in a revolving loan fund that we invest in world-enhancing small businesses that are solving social and economic and environmental issues.”

Her advocacy for mission-aligned investing is part of what Elizabeth considers her most important work in recent years.
