Richard’s role as CMO of UnTours and the UnTours Foundation builds on a diverse career in the adventure travel industry, with experience in marketing, CSR, and product development for several pioneering adventure organizations. He has led global marketing efforts for G Adventures and UnCruise Adventures, in addition to holding senior roles and consulting for a variety of destinations, international organizations, and travel companies of all sizes.
In the early days of ecotourism and sustainable development in Costa Rica in the 1980s, Richard began writing about regional sustainability issues for the Organization of American States before transitioning to the private sector. A resident of Latin America for nearly four decades, Richard is dedicated to helping companies and destinations benefit from practical, cost-effective business strategies while striving to develop and promote socially and environmentally responsible travel. In pursuit of this goal, he was a founding Executive Board Member and Communications Chair of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).
He is perhaps best known as the founding Director of Planeterra, the nonprofit arm of G Adventures, where he established its current model of direct investment in sustainable supply chain entrepreneurs.
