Sejiva

Sejiva is reimagining how people travel across Indonesia by placing regeneration, connection, and purpose at the center of every journey. Founded in 2023 by three visionary travel companies, Sebumi, Traval, and Wise Steps Travel, Sejiva was born from a shared belief that tourism can restore harmony between people, nature, and culture. From coral reef restoration in Raja Ampat to zero waste hikes in Java, Sejiva designs immersive experiences that celebrate Indonesia’s biodiversity while empowering the communities who call it home. Through its #TravelPositive movement, the company invites travelers, students, and organizations to explore mindfully and become part of a collective journey toward a more regenerative future.

The Sejiva Origin Story

Sejiva was born from a shared vision between three tourism entrepreneurs who believed travel could do more than simply sustain. Matteo Bierschneider had built Wise Steps Travel around education and empathy, connecting travelers to nature and community through meaningful experiences. Iben Yuzenho was leading Sebumi, guiding young Indonesians through national parks and conservation areas to learn about environmental stewardship. Julius Bramanto had created Traval, a digital platform linking hundreds of local operators with travelers seeking authentic adventures. Each founder had seen how tourism could inspire and empower, but also how easily it could disconnect people from the places they visit.

They came together to imagine something different, a company that could bridge their collective experience in travel, education, and environmental restoration. Together they envisioned a model where travelers, communities, and ecosystems would all benefit, where tourism would become a source of pride and regeneration rather than extraction. On a small island surrounded by sea and silence, they spent days sharing stories, exploring local wisdom, and asking what it would mean to build a business with purpose and heart.

From those conversations, Sejiva was created. The name, meaning “one soul,” reflects the founders’ belief that people and the planet are inseparable. Sejiva grew from that idea into a collaboration built on storytelling, community partnership, and connection.

How Sejiva Is Making A Positive Impact

Every Sejiva journey is co created with local partners and designed to ensure that benefits stay in the community. Guests stay in locally owned accommodations, learn from village cooperatives, and join experiences led by guides who know the land by heart. Revenue flows to women led groups, artisans, and micro entrepreneurs, and cultural heritage is honored through foodways, music, and craft traditions.

Environmental care is woven into daily operations. The team eliminates single use plastics on trips, favors eco certified lodging, sources food responsibly, and tracks unavoidable emissions for Indonesian led mangrove and coral restoration. Sejiva is developing an impact reporting system that shows each traveler how their visit supported ecosystems and livelihoods, from trees planted to funds directed to community projects.

The company is also investing in the long term through destination based regenerative hubs. The first pilot, planned for Lombok, will combine low impact lodging, community learning spaces, and hands on conservation. These hubs are intended to serve as places where travelers and local residents collaborate to restore ecosystems and strengthen cultural resilience.

Why the UnTours Foundation Invested in Sejiva

We invested in Sejiva because it models the future of travel that we want to see in Indonesia. The company unites deep local relationships with strong product design and an honest commitment to regeneration. It also represents what can happen when founders choose collaboration over competition. By bringing together Sebumi, Traval, and Wise Steps Travel, Sejiva proved that shared vision can unlock scale and impact.

This investment is part of our partnership with Agoda and WWF Singapore on the Sustainable Tourism Impact Fund. Together we are supporting small and growing tourism enterprises that protect biodiversity, strengthen communities, and create meaningful experiences for travelers. Sejiva stands out for its practical approach. Corporate leadership retreats draw on Javanese philosophy and pair reflection with service. Student programs blend ecological learning with cultural exchange. Impact trips take travelers beyond crowded routes and into places where their presence supports conservation and dignified work. The result is travel that changes how people see the world and how destinations see tourism.
